Claire Miller worked for Lothian Press before relocating to the Netherlands to market the country’s first satellite communications company during the ISP boom. Upon her return, Claire worked as an events manager and marketer for Tourism WA and the University of Western Australia. She joined Fremantle Press in 2008 and is the marketing and communications manager. As well as running individual book campaigns, Claire produces the Fremantle Press podcast and co-hosts the How to Be an Author episodes. She also curates the Four Centres Emerging Writers Program and oversees the City of Fremantle Hungerford Award and the Fogarty Literary Award.
Dr Helen Milroy is a descendant of the Palyku people of the Pilbara region of Western Australia, but was born and educated in Perth. Australia’s first Indigenous doctor, Helen studied medicine at the University of Western Australia and is currently Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UWA, Honorary Research Fellow at Telethon Kids Institute and a Commissioner with the National Mental Health Commission. Helen was recently appointed as the AFL’s first indigenous commissioner. She is the award-winning author and illustrator of Wombat, Mudlark and Other Stories, Backyard Birds, Backyard Bugs and Backyard Beasties. She hosts Helen Milroy presents where she talks to children's book creators.
Georgia Richter has an MA (Creative Writing) from the University of Western Australia and is an IPEd Accredited Editor. She has taught creative writing, professional writing and editing at the universities of Melbourne, Western Australia and Curtin. After working as a freelance editor, Georgia joined Fremantle Press in 2008 as fiction, narrative nonfiction and poetry publisher. She has a passion for sharing advice and ideas with new writers and encouraging them to support each other through community building. With Claire Miller she has conducted workshops for the Four Centres Emerging Writers Program, along with many workshops and presentations in universities and the community. She is proud to judge the City of Fremantle Hungerford Award and the Fogarty Literary Award. Georgia is the co-author of the book How to be an Author and co-hosts the Fremantle Press podcast with Claire Miller.
Brooke Dunnell is the author of the short story collection Female(s and) Dogs, which was a finalist for the 2020 Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award. Her short stories have been recognised in competitions including the Bridport Short Story Prize 2019 and the Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize 2017, and have appeared in The Best Australian Stories, New Australian Stories 2, The Big Issue Fiction Edition and other anthologies. Brooke has worked as a creative writing mentor, workshop facilitator and judge in various creative writing competitions. She has a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Western Australia and lives in Perth. Her novel, The Glass House, won the 2021 Fogarty Literary Award and will be published in November 2022. She is host of Brooke Dunnell presents for the Fremantle Press podcast in which she interviews adult fiction writers.
